Today’s auction had attracted a huge volume of interest due to the substantial size of the property on offer. Auctioneer David Quinn reported enquiries from “the US, the UK and mainland Europe” combined with significant interest from locals. The property was guided in the region of €900,000 prior to auction. The holding was offered in the following lots:
Lot 1: C. Residence & yard on C. 17 acres
Lot 2: C. 24.5 acres
Lot 3: C. 37 acres
Lot 4: C. 36.7 acres including forestry
Lot 5: C. 8.4 acres
Lot 6: The entire
On the day of the auction there was a good deal of interest in all of the lots, with a combination of €880,000 offered after the first round of bidding. However, with the entire (lot 6) making €970,000 after the first round it seemed likely that the property would be sold in its entirely. The auctioneer sought further bids on the separate lots to try fill the gap but only got as far as €940,000. Lots 1 to 5 were then withdrawn.
After taking a break to consult with the vendor, David Quinn announced that the entire would be put on the market at €1 million, giving interested parties encouragement to make further bids. Shortly afterwards, €1 million had been reached and bids kept coming in. Ultimately, the hammer fell at €1,050,000, more than €100,000 over the guide price.
Auctioneer David Quinn hailed the result as having “exceeded all expectations”. He noted that “the scale of the property had drawn interest from far and wide” which helped ensure “an extremely strong price”.
