‘€10k/acre guide for May Day auction of 68-acre Wicklow farm’. Irish Examiner. 09/04/24.

The property is near Tinahely, Co. Wicklow

Gorey-based auctioneers QUINN PROPERTY have an auction of a substantial holding on May 1. As with previous auctions, this one will be online only and the selling agents are expecting a strong turnout for a quality property that will suit a number of potential buyers.

The farm in question is in the townland of Toberpatrick, near Tinahely, County Wicklow — close to the Wicklow-Wexford border. It’s 5km east of Tinahely, 8km from Aughrim and 20km north of Gorey, County Wexford.

“The farm is south-facing,” says selling agent David Quinn. “It’s divided by the public road and it’s currently in a mixture of grassland and tillage.”

The land quality is very good, the agents say, and its mixed used of pasture and tillage reflects its quality and the overall farming practices typical in this part of the world.

The property can be bought either in separate lots or as a whole. It will be interesting to see how the bids go – whether it will be sold in separate pieces or all together. Going by normal trends, one would expect the latter, but time will tell.

Lot 1 consists of 44.6 acres of land. It’s on the western side of the public road and includes a farmyard with an extensive range of outbuildings.

These include a three-span machinery shed, a three-span slatted shed with feeding passage, a four-span slatted shed with cubicles, a three-span round-roof shed with lean-to structures, two open concrete silage pits, yards and cattle crush.

The lands are laid out behind the farmyard in eight divisions in a mixture of tillage and grassland. “It’s generally of good quality,” says David, “with free-draining soils and no wastage.”

Lot 2 is the remaining 23.6 acres of the property. It enjoys good road frontage and is in two divisions. Consisting of grassland, it has a natural water supply. According to the agents, it’s mainly in good condition, with some heavier land towards the eastern boundary.

Lot 3 is the entire holding.

The property is guiding a very tempting €10,000/acre.
