Today’s auction saw an excellently located parcel of land, just off the Gorey to Wexford road come to the market. The land is divided into two divisions and are is currently in stubble after corn. The property would be suitable for any agricultural enterprise and with good road frontage may have site potential S.T.P.P.
In advance of the auction, auctioneer David Quinn had guided the property between €10,000 and €12,000 per acre. David noted good interest in the land, most of which was from from local farmers. There were six registered bidders for the property.
On the day of the auction, bidding began at €100,000 and with competition between two bidders €130,000 was quickly reached. A new bidder entered the race at €135,000 before the auctioneer called for a brief pause to take client instructions. Upon his return to the auction room, Mr Quinn declared the property “a little short of its reserve” and invited further bids. A bid of €140,000 was promptly made but with the property still not quite at the reserve, the property was withdrawn and negotiations commenced with the highest bidder.
Following swift negotiations, the property was sold for a figure in excess of the top bid at auction. David Quinn commented that he was “most pleased to have secured another excellent result for land in North Wexford”. According to Mr Quinn “there remains a strong depth of demand for similar properties”.
