Ballyoughter, Gorey, Co. Wexford – Auction Report

Ballyoughter, Gorey, Co. Wexford

SOLD APRIL 2024 – Valuable C. 7.5 Acre Roadside Holding For Sale By Online Auction On Friday 12th of April At 12 Noon

Today’s auction saw a well-located c. 7.5 acre holding come to the market at Ballyoughter, Gorey, Co. Wexford. The land is in two divisions, currently in grass and is in need of some improvement works. It may offer residential planning, subject to planning permission.

Auctioneer David Quinn had guided the property between €8,000 – €10,000 per acre and recorded “substantial interest from local farmers and businesspeople”. David added that there was “thirteen registered bidders for the auction which is a very encouraging signal as to the level of demand for small holdings”.

On the day of the auction, bidding opened at €30,000 and burst past €100,000 in no time. With bidding at €120,000, Mr Quinn took a quick break to take client instructions and upon his return he declared the property to be “on the market”. Five further bids was sufficient to close out the auction as the hammer fell at €142,000 (approx. €19,000 per acre).

Speaking shortly after the auction, the auctioneer remarked that he was “delighted with the result, which more is more than double the guide price”. Mr Quinn added that “there is a very real depth of demand for similar small holdings”.
