Today’s auction was eagerly anticipated since it first went on the market several weeks ago. Unsurprisingly given its iconic status, the sale of The Orphan Girl attracted headlines from both local and national news outlets. While it was inevitable that there would be strong interest in the sale of this landmark premises, Jack Quinn, the agent handling the sale noted that he was “extremely encouraged with both the quantity and the calibre of the parties that registered to bid”. Mr Quinn added that “there was a great mix of interest from across the country and indeed overseas” but that most interest was either “local or Dublin based”.
On the day of the auction, bidding opened at €700,000 and moved promptly as far as €820,000. Bidding then continued as far as €900,000 at which point a break was called to take client instructions. Upon the resumption of the auction, all bidder were informed that the property still short of its reserve. With no further bids either online or in the room the property was withdrawn.
