Today’s second auction saw an excellent parcel of land in Carnew come to the market. The property has access over two separate laneways, is 30m back from the public road with c. 2 acres zoned for education & community uses and the remainder in agricultural zoning. The land is in one large division, in grass, recently reseeded and is well fenced.

Auctioneer David Quinn had guided the property at €20,000 per acre and noted “strong interest from a wide range of buyer types”. This translated into eight registered bidders.

The auction commenced with a bid of €230,000 and reached €335,000 with “brisk bidding” at which point the property was declared to be “on the market”. This prompted bidding to continue to €400,000 and beyond. Ultimately, a bid of €415,000 secured the property for a remarkable price of more than €28,000 per acre.

We spoke with Mr Quinn immediately after what he described as “an incredibly lively auction”. He added that his client was “over the moon with the result which is surely a record for land of this nature”. The buyer was described as a “local tillage farmer”.
