A derelict cottage on a 0.4 acre site which went up for sale by online auction on September 13, was sold for well above its guide price of €45,000 to a buyer in Ulster.
Wednesday’s auction at 12 noon saw the small dwelling at Killisk, The Ballagh, near Enniscorthy in Wexford offered to the market. The residence is in need of complete restoration. “There was significant interest in this property from far and wide,” said Jack Quinn of Quinn Property.
“We typically count on a certain level of local interest for similar properties but in this case there was clearly a wider appeal.” The property was guided at €45,000 and there were seven registered bidders.
On the day of the auction, bidding commenced at €30,000 and quickly jumped to €50,000. Further bidding brought bidding to €60,000 at which point a break was called to consult with the vendor. Upon the resumption of the auction, the property was declared ‘on the market’. Ultimately the hammer fell at €65,000.
“With the property market continuing to perform well, please contact us if you are considering selling your property, either by way of auction or private treaty,” added Mr Quinn.
