A 3.5-acre site near the centre of Tinahely in south Wicklow recently sold for an astonishing €100,000 at a hotly contested online auction.
Located beside the local water works, just a short walk from the picturesque village’s main square, the lush property, which is in one field with extensive frontage onto the public road, had been guided at between €10,000 and €12,000 per acre.
Property agent and auctioneer David Quinn was said to be “blown away” from the outset by the interest in the property, which features panoramic views of the rolling countryside and may offer residential planning, subject to planning permission.
With nine registered bidders for the auction and a strong interest that Mr Quinn described as “predominately local”, the auction commenced with a bid of €35,000 and quickly reached €60,000 after early bidding.
With strong competition from three bidders, the property was declared “on the market”, with further bids continuing to roll in.
The prompt pace of bidding continued right up until the hammer fell at a remarkable price of €100,000.
Speaking after the auction, Mr Quinn noted: “This was an exceptionally strong result with a price of almost €30,000 per acre achieved, and the vendors are thrilled with the outcome of the auction.”
QUINN PROPERTY’s next auction is scheduled for Wednesday, March 27, when a c. 23 acre property with a derelict stone-built cottage and outbuildings at Ballyboy, Ferns, County Wexford, will go under the hammer.
